Poet is set in her ways – and happy with her life – until Kade Denton shows up and upends the entire operation. He’s loud and proud – and Poet doesn’t like anyone telling her what to do.
As the new head of security, Kade thinks his only job is going to be tackling drunken revelers when they get out of hand. He’s in for a rude – and bloody – awakening.
When monsters strike and the truth comes out, Kade finds he has to learn on the job with Poet as his somewhat reluctant instructor.
Sparks are flying – both real and figurative – and when a truly terrible beast targets the circus for extermination it’s all magical hands on deck for the final showdown.

changes when a grandmother she didn’t even know existed dies and leaves her a fabulous lighthouse on Moonstone Bay Island. Hadley, ready for an adventure, decides to check things out and finds herself plunged into a world she never envisioned.

Wicked Witches of the Midwest

Bay Winchester is having a tough week. As the local editor of Hemlock Cove's only newspaper, she just happens to be present when a body is found in an area corn maze. To make matters worse, the police believe the murder may have something to do with the occult. This wouldn't be a problem for a normal reporter, but since Bay is descended from a well-known line of actual witches, the town is understandably on edge. Between the suspicious townspeople, the befuddled police presence and that random hot biker guy that may or may not have something to do with the murder -- Bay has her hands full. When you add the typical family problems, multiplying ghosts -- and one monster of a zit that she's sure came from her aunt's curse -- Bay is just struggling to make it through the week. Of course, when the killer sets his sights on Bay, things could get a whole lot worse.

Death Gate Grim Reapers Thrillers

Isabella “Izzy” Sage spent her formative years on Belle Isle in Detroit, playing next to the gate that separates the living from the dead as her parents drew a paycheck from the grim reaper council. Then the impossible happened, tragedy struck, and Izzy found herself an orphan. Her grandfather took her away and raised her among the Bruja in New Orleans, although her heart always longed to return to the gate … which felt so much like a part of her. Now, as an adult, Izzy has worked her way up to gatekeeper status and she’s back in the place her childhood ended. She’s the one in charge now … although things don’t go how she hoped. On her very first day, the gate is breached, and the wraith that crosses over is not only murderous but enhanced. Izzy wants to be in charge, but the local reaper council needs help so they send back-up in the form of a magical reaping family. The Grimlocks are loud, boisterous and used to a good fight. They're about to get one, with Izzy at their side.

Spells Angels

Scout Randall is more than a witch on a motorcycle. She’s more than the magic she wields. She’s also a woman with a secret past that she can’t remember … a sarcastic wonder who acts before she thinks. The one thing Scout knows with absolute certainty is that she’s got a purpose in life … and that purpose is fighting evil. That’s why she joined the Spells Angels, a biker group with offices all across the world. It’s because of the group that she finds herself in Hawthorne Hollow, where magic is out in the open and Scout finds her powers are constantly on display. She was transferred to the town because they needed help, although no one will tell her what happened to the woman who held the position before her and she’s constantly distracted by the local denizens, including Gunner Stratton, a shifter with a history he would rather keep to himself. Scout is determined to do her job … even if it means taking on the rising dead in Hawthorne Hollow.

I love the premise of the story! Different types of paranormals are part of a circus and by traveling around the US, they can take out evil monsters both paranormal and evil. They’re one big family! Poet is head of security and other things until the boss hires a new security person! Poet is conflicted and is curious about why he would hire someone just out of the military! But Kade settles in unknowing about the special gifts of the circus crew. Because monsters seek the circus family out, eventually Kade finds out that he’s been lied to . Through more issues with paranormals, Kade eventually decides to stay and help. But Poet has pieced together why Max hired Kade and they’ve made a deal as to when Max will tell Kade. Enchanting book.

Circuses have always held attraction, mystery, glamor, and tons of magic. This one has all kinds of creatures on staff also. Shadows hold the bad guys that creep out to grab a quick bite out of this circus.

I’ve read most of the other series‘ by Amanda Lee. I was a little bit reluctant to start this one, because it just looked weird. But the characters are likable, and the plot is understandable.

I love Poet and Kade, Luke on the other hand makes me want to gag him! It’s a good start to a series that that has characters that pop up in other series I have read. Great story telling and imagination!

I wasn’t sure about this book when I chose it. The cover art equally intrigued me and freaked me out a little so I was prepared to be on the fence. Amanda M. Lee is an amazing author. This was my first foray into one of her series and I haven’t laughed out loud so often in can’t remember how long. Freaky Days is more entertainment than the average top sitcom., filled with fun, exotic, yet highly likable and relateable characters. I can’t wait to discover more about Poet and Kade’s journey, Luke’s outrageous antics, Kade’s reaction to Max’s big reveal, and getting to know the rest of the mystic caravan crew.

*****Spoilers*****

I think this particular series just won't be for me. The writing is good, the characters are believable and different, and the concept is interesting, especially the circus piece with the added monster hunter thing going on behind the scenes. All of it reeled me in from the very beginning but after finishing the book, I know I'm not interested in reading any more in the series. Max owns a supernatural circus and is like a father to Poet who runs the day to day operations. The book opens with Max informing Poet that Kade is the new head of security and her boss when it comes to everything security, but Kade knows nothing about the supernatural. I guessed right that Kade was Max's son, especially when we kept getting from Max a desire for Poet to stay out of his personal life when she persisted in asking questions.

Poet is the circus manager with a lot of responsibility on her shoulders. She has loveable Luke as a best friend, and I absolutely loved him from start to finish and secretly hoped something would develop between him and Poet after reading the first few paragraphs, but could tell that it wasn't going to happen fairly early on in the book after the opening. We learn late in the book that Luke is gay and though they do love one another, he and Poet won't be anything more than friends.

While managing the circus, Poet and the other supernaturals who run it draw evil to them and take care of the evil whether it be human or another supernatural as they travel across the country. It was a good way to slowly introduce more creatures into the story without a data dump and made it easier to get a grasp on things. I liked how the circus group worked together as a unit and Nellie with axe in tow made me laugh more than once. Sid the Clown turned out to be sick and had his own agenda so he's out after this book though I was disappointed that we didn't get a description of what Max could do when he eliminated Sid.

Something I didn't appreciate much was Poet and how juvenile she was about Kade and her attraction to him. She and Raven competing for him but Poet bowing out but being jealous and petty but still falling for Kade and him her but Poet using Luke as a buffer since Kade didn't understand their relationship because even though Luke and Poet say they're friends, they're really close and could be perceived as more if you don't know. It was so much more annoying to read when we're talking about adults. Then again, the word immature came up in relation to the circus community so there could be a point there. I liked that Kade addressed it like an adult and laid out that he was interested in Poet and not Raven. Poet seems to be feeling herself falling too so wants to take things slow. I wasn't up for another book of almost but not quite because one obstacle after another was shoved into their paths that needed to be resolved first. This one had enough interruptions for their stolen kisses and the big supernatural reveal. Since this ended with Poet guessing Kade was Max's son and agreeing to give Max a week to tell him, all while knowing how much Kade hates lies, I can already roll my eyes at how that will play out in another book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Poet Parker: Day job: fortune teller; night job; fighting evil
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 28, 2021
Poet Parker has assorted mind powers - telling the future, reading minds, breaking through blocks on reading minds... among others. Her parents tried to conceal what she could do. They died when she was 12, and she went into foster care. Some OK, some very bad. She went on the streets to survive, and Max found her when she tried to pick his pocket. He offered her a place in the circus, and she accepted. We join her at the beginning of the first book. It's a circus with a lamia, dwarves, and her best friend: a vain, egotistical, handsome, wolf shapeshifter. This is the first of twelve books, which should be read in order. I loved the series. I read it first on kindle unlimited, liked it enough to buy the series. I know I'll re-read it. I've never read anything by this author I didn't love. Characters in one series show up in another. So, disappointing as it was to read the final 12th book in the series, I know it's not the last time I'll read about Poet Parker.

I love Port and Luke's bff relationship! Luke's sarcasm and innuendos are breathtakingly funny, every time I read anything he says I laugh so hard! I want a best friend like Luke. Easy to read, fun characters and an interesting novel, altho at times I was a bit bored by Poet's childish attitude at times towards the Raven and Kade scenes. But all an all a fun easy read
